Five days across three of Uzbekistan’s great historic cities. From modern Tashkent to the old quarters of Bukhara and the monumental architecture of Samarkand, this journey offers an introduction to the country’s history, culture and Silk Road heritage.
About This Tour
This five-day journey connects Tashkent, Bukhara and Samarkand, bringing together three very different cities and several layers of Uzbekistan’s history.
The tour begins in Tashkent, exploring its squares, old city and one of the country’s best-known markets. From there, the Afrosiyob high-speed train takes you to Bukhara, where much of the experience unfolds on foot among madrasas, mosques, trading domes and the streets of the historic centre.
The final part of the journey is devoted to Samarkand, including Registan Square, Gur-e Amir, Bibi-Khanym Mosque, Shah-i-Zinda and Ulugh Beg Observatory. The final day includes a visit to the Imam al-Bukhari complex.
It is a well-paced cultural introduction to Uzbekistan, with high-speed rail connecting the country’s principal historic cities.
Tour Itinerary
1Tashkent
Arrive at Tashkent International Airport at approximately 12:00, meet your driver and transfer to the hotel. Later, begin exploring the capital with visits to the Hazrati Imam Complex, Chorsu Bazaar, Independence Square, Amir Timur Square, Broadway and Tashkent City.
2Tashkent → Bukhara
After an early breakfast, transfer to the railway station and board the 08:30 Afrosiyob high-speed train to Bukhara. The journey takes approximately four hours according to the itinerary. After checking in, begin exploring Bukhara’s historic centre. Visit the Lyabi-Hauz ensemble, Nodir Divan-Begi and Kukeldash madrasas, Magoki Attori Mosque, historic caravanserais and Bukhara’s old trading domes. Continue to the Ulugh Beg and Abdulaziz Khan madrasas, the Poi Kalyan ensemble with its celebrated minaret, mosque and Mir-i-Arab Madrasa, and the Ark Citadel.
3Bukhara → Samarkand
After breakfast, continue exploring Bukhara with a visit to Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa, the former summer residence of the last Emir of Bukhara. Continue to the memorial complex of Bahauddin Naqshband, one of the region’s most important Sufi figures, before returning to the city for some free time. At 16:40, transfer to the railway station and travel to Samarkand by Afrosiyob high-speed train. On arrival, transfer to the hotel.
4Samarkand
After breakfast, set out on a 5–6 hour tour of Samarkand. Visit Registan Square and its three madrasas, Ulugh Beg, Tilya-Kori and Sher-Dor, followed by the Gur-e Amir Mausoleum, Bibi-Khanym Mosque and Siyob Bazaar. The day continues at the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis and Ulugh Beg Observatory.
5Samarkand → Jartepa
After breakfast, visit the Imam al-Bukhari memorial complex. After lunch, transfer to the Jartepa border crossing, where the tour ends.
